Title: Oh, go ahead and ask~
Post by: Bunraku on April 19, 2014, 09:22:33 PM
Most of you don't even really know me XD;; But this whole ask a question thing looked like fun, so consider this a get to know you thread maybe? XD <3 No dirty questions, you know the drill~

I don't have many companions at all, so feel free to ask me about RP in general outside of AAA as well, since I don't have many plots here (yet. mwahaha. ) Or, anything else that pops in your head. >>;

Of all the Companions you hope to somebody inhabit your signature, which one is the one you want the absolute most and why?

And adding to that which type of AAA collar appeals to you the most (wild, stray, domestic?) Or does that really note matter, as long as you can have fun?

Bun~ So glad your joining in on the fray~ Cause now I get to ask you fun questions. No escape. <3

What's your favorite type of RP to write/participate in?

Are you a prankster? What's the most clever prank you've ever managed to pull?

Title: Re: Oh, go ahead and ask~
Post by: Bunraku on April 19, 2014, 10:08:33 PM
@Shadow that is a VERY difficult question to answer, because I have so many characters that appeal to me depending on where my muse is at the time. I have a lot of cosplay desires, one of which may be happening in the near future, though it will need approval before it can happen. But as for unfulfilled desires, I would say Sesshomaru from Inu Yasha, or Angeal Hewley from Crisis Core FFVII. Both have personalities that I enjoy depicting and have thought over in depth. But I also have several OC desires, a dual wing "angel" (would need to be a bird companion) called Lassard, and several yokai fox/dog based characters I would like as companions.

@Elya I would say that it doesn't matter, because I love playing a wide variety of personalities. But I think my favorite personality type to depict might end up falling under a stray collar.

@Kira I felt this coming <3 XD Another hard question. I'm not really certain how to put my favorite type of RP into a definite category, but I enjoy RP where the characters are faced with difficult decisions that begin to shape them and bring out different aspects of their personalities. I like RP about change, and journeying to find ones self, or learning to find acceptance in ones self or others. The thicker and the more elaborate the plot around these types of discoveries, the better. I think one of my favorite themes might be "Breaking the ice" with a difficult character- I love playing characters who are closed off and try to distance themselves from others, because I enjoy the process of seeing them unfold when another character tries to interact with them. I also deeply enjoy RP that includes clashing opinions between enemy factions. Another favorite type of RP I enjoy, is the theme of "forbidden love" between characters that put themselves in danger for their feelings.

As for pranking... yes XD I think the most stupid and successful prank I ever pulled was when I was about 16. A friend and I in a fit of madness decided to call the customer service number on the bottom of a box of nerds, which is owned by the "Willy Wonka Candy Company" I asked, very seriously, in a bad english accent, if I could please speak to Mr.Willy Wonka. When they told me no, I very seriously complained about how upset I was that I couldn't speak to him. They asked for my name and adderss...I gave it to them. I spent two weeks petrified the police, or barring that, a horde of oompa loompas would come for me.

They sent me free candy coupons. The lady apparently misinterprated my call as a complaint about the product.

What inspired your forum name?

Title: Re: Oh, go ahead and ask~
Post by: Bunraku on April 20, 2014, 04:42:42 PM
My forum name actually stems from the name of a movie the Japanese music star Gackt was in called "Bunraku", but that wasn't the entire reason behind my choice. The movie familiarized me with the term- "Bunraku" is actually a form of Japanese theatre in which large elaborately decorated puppets are manipulated on stage by visible puppeteers dressed completely in black. I've come to feel that the term is symbolic of myself as a person and a role player, because there is nothing I enjoy more than taking on the role of my characters.

I be uncultured. Didn't know that. |D

You've been shoved into a bank heist! Are you the leader, get away driver, muscle, or brains?

What's your least favorite animal and mythical creature?

Title: Re: Oh, go ahead and ask~
Post by: Bunraku on April 20, 2014, 08:29:17 PM
Fun question! XD I think I would end up being the brains of the job. Judging by how much I enjoy the mental loop-de-loops of plotting out the activities some of my more "nefarious" characters and what goes on inside of there heads, I'd probably devise a method of getting away with something like that using subtle means that avoid violence and immediate detection. Of course, now I've just made myself sound slightly criminal XD;

My least favorite animal would probably be monkeys, gorillas, or anything within that genus. They just creep me out, especially when they become violent. My least favorite mythical creature is a more difficult question because I like a lot of bazaar mythology that isn't exactly something you want the kids to read XD But I think one of the most disturbing mythical creatures is Tenome, a beast that I first ran across in the movie "Pan's Labyrinth", but whom I just discovered while looking for its exact name, actually has far older origins in Japanese monster mythology. Also, there is a Scottish or Irish monster with the head of a man and a body of a sheep I find pretty creepy, but I can't seem to find its exact name either.

What'd you wanna be... when you grow up?

Title: Re: Oh, go ahead and ask~
Post by: Bunraku on April 21, 2014, 09:58:04 AM
That's kind of a difficult question to answer because I never really had any concrete goals growing up, and in all honesty I still don't. Every time someone would ask me what I'd like to be based on my interests, my answer would always stem more from my imagination than anything realistic. Take, for example, my love of horses, and you'd end up with a scenario like this, as ridiculous as it seems:

Mom: So, do you want to be a jockey when you grow up?
Me: No, I'd rather be the horse.

Even though I've 'grown up' that mentality has never really changed- I often felt I'd rather lead a life like that of the characters and creatures that populate my imagination rather than settling on a concrete reality. But those desires have solidified over time to become a strong love of writing and art that has lead me to find my niche- the video game industry, where I can combine story telling aspects with artistic visuals and incorporate the parts of me that enjoy problem solving and code. I think I'd love to be the artistic mind behind the visuals you see in a video game, or the director of it's story- but ultimately I'd like to own my own company and produce my own ideas for games, as far off and unrealistic as that goal seems.

That was probably a far more elaborate answer than needed, but...XD

Here's a question, do you have a favorite Yokai from Japanese myth? Do you have a story about one that you really like, or that freaks you out?

Title: Re: Oh, go ahead and ask~
Post by: Bunraku on April 21, 2014, 11:31:24 AM
Another difficult question, because more often than not when dealing with Japanese mythology in particular, the things that interest me may also very well be the things that freak me out at the same time. What I find most intriguing about yokai mythologies in particular is that the yokai who is evil to one man may have a more benevolent meaning to another-they are never one thing or the other, but almost always both, creating a shade of gray. Ultimately as with all mythology they become a reflection of the good and bad sides of human nature-from the gentlest to the most disgustingly cruel.

Since I came to love yokai mythology through lighter reflections of these myths in anime like Inu Yasha (which consequently was also my first introduction to anime itself and concepts involving Japan) my yokai favorites will always be the dog, wolf and fox related demons and gods. They are depicted as both gentle protectors, and vicious judges of the human soul- sometimes standing guard over children and rice fields, sometimes shadowing the unwary traveler on a darkened path, awaiting the moment when he is most vulnerable. It strikes me, however, that the source of the dog-demon's evil usually stems from human beings themselves- such as the cruel tale of the creation of the Inugami, a spirit supposedly made to do it's masters bidding, but whom in the end may turn upon the master himself due to the way in which it was created. In a way, reinforcing the old saying "There is no such thing as a bad dog-only a bad master." The unintended lesson of these tales being that through our own actions, we as human beings are the source of both good and evil. As a result, they are, also, scary and almost repelling (mostly because of what the humans in the tales have done, or want the Inugami to do) - but because of that, I also find them fascinating, and enjoy taking these myths to create different stories of my own where Inugami might find himself on a different path in "life".

That was again, probably a -far- more detailed explanation than the question really called for XD;

What Character haven't you been able to RP in a while that'd you'd like to? (Could be a past character of yours)

What Character (out of all the site) who'd you love to read more about? (Feel free to choose top three)

Title: Re: Oh, go ahead and ask~
Post by: Bunraku on April 22, 2014, 09:02:36 PM
I'm not certain if there is any specific character I particularly long to play, though I wish there was a niche for some of my Yokai characters to fit in beyond the world I have built for them. I actually have many OC's that I don't often play because I'm not sure if they would interact well with the worlds available to me- that or my muse for them is fickle and not as consistent. Some personality types are evoked more by a particular mood or inspiration that sparks them. I guess I can answer that question better by saying that I'd like to be able to play and develop more OC's in general, but the things that spark their personalities in me aren't often given rise. I am, however, very content with the characters I am currently playing off of AAA, because some I have always wanted to have a niche for, and found it. There is a lot of satisfaction in that.

Oh, this is going to be SUCH a biased answer XD Midnight Phantom's Sephiroth, for one. I don't just enjoy playing that character, I also like reading about him, and seeing other people's take on the personality. Elyabeth's Alan is another personality I'd like to read more of. I've been digging through his past RP's and am actually eager to interact with him directly (He's Indra's adoptive father) And I need to go read about your Peyton, visually every time I see him, I just have to stop and stare because I love that hair.

Name three cosplays you'd like to see around the boards. You don't have to be planning to get them.

What is your favorite color combination? (3-5 colors. Feel free to choose two.)

Title: Re: Oh, go ahead and ask~
Post by: Bunraku on April 24, 2014, 10:03:37 AM
I'm a cosplay addict- generally if I want to see it I'd also love to play it. But these are some cosplays I'd like to see, but wouldn't have the muse to play, though I'd like to interact with them (I'm not sure if they have been done-forgive me if they have, I'm not really 100% keeping track of everything on AAA)
-Maleficent, dragon or humanoid form. Kingdom Hearts related back story?
-Riku, Kingdom Hearts (Would like to own him, but not sure if I would know how to play him?)
-Naraku, Inu Yasha

I have many, I kind of go through moods where one combination appeals more than another. I love black and silver in combination with shades of green/cyan or midnight blue (gee I wonder why XD) I also like white and red and black with smaller accent colors like silver or gold (replace the red with pale sakura pink and I like that as well) but that combination is usually only appealing to me when used with a Japanese aesthetic in mind.

Lately, though, the warmer weather has me on a "tropical" kick where I find myself getting adoptables with bright colors like red, cyan, yellow, green and orange or rainbow.

I'd ask for favorite game but...its probably Kingdom Hearts right?

Title: Re: Oh, go ahead and ask~

Nope, actually my favorite game isn't Kingdom Hearts. I played Kingdom Hearts because of my favorite game, which is the Compilation of FFVII, and out of those, Crisis Core being my absolute favorite :3

Though for MMO's, hands down Aion is my current favorite.

One day I'll join you in Aion!

Name a pass time sport you'd like to try and haven't? (Such as hand gliding, golf, scuba, bungie jumping, etc.)

If you could steal any character around the boards to hang out for a day, who would it be? (Feel free to pick top three choice, not necessarily in any order.)

Title: Re: Oh, go ahead and ask~
Post by: Bunraku on May 03, 2014, 12:11:28 AM
Well, I can't say I haven't tried it, but I'd like to seriously horseback ride for more than 5 minutes at a ren faire. Other than that...I would like to do that crazy thing where people jump off of high places in a winged suit and glide. Anything with flying would appeal, though I'd probably be terrified? But then again people said I would be terrified the first time I was ever in an air plane, and I ended up spending the time during take of with my face glued to the window in awe as the ground dropped away. It was wonderful, so I might not be afraid. Also...I enjoy turbulence. XD Scuba diving would also be a lot of fun for me...but oh, you know what I'd love? One of those realistic mermaid tails you can actually swim with. Strap a scuba tank to me with one of those tails and I'd be down there all day playing mermaid in my head. >>;

Who would I steal? Jiang sounds interesting for his swordsmanship. Alan for his gentle personality and selfless nature. And maybe Rei, because I want to see him eat icecream XD

Name a few singers or bands you enjoy listening to.

Favorite type of movie genre?

Title: Re: Oh, go ahead and ask~
Post by: Bunraku on May 04, 2014, 02:05:39 PM
I really love music that comes from different culture, especially Japanese music. Gackt is one of my favorite singers for his visual appeal and theatrics, but I love the band Rin because they mingle traditional instruments and songs with modern instruments and it's just beautiful. For English speaking favorites: One Republic, Beyonce, Loreena McKennitt and many others.

For movies, hands down my favorites will always be Fantasy Action/Romance/Comedy. But I also like a little sci-fi, but with those I prefer movies about AI's and other types of robots.

Ever have a recurring nightmare? or dream? Care to share? Doesn't have to be in depth. Like mine tend to involve crocodiles and zombies. >.o I couldn't even explain if I wanted to.

Which is your favorite Aeon/summon/magical beastie from the final fantasy series?

Title: Re: Oh, go ahead and ask~
Post by: Bunraku on May 07, 2014, 06:45:49 PM
@ Kira Strangely enough Kira I had a dream about a crocodile just the other night XD But as for recurring nightmares? Themes that have cropped up multiple times often include mummies. There's one particular dream about mummies I can think of that I've actually had twice, years apart, but in the second dream I KNEW it was a dream, and went through the process of using the methods I did to defeat them in the dream before while wishing I'd wake up the whole time. I didn't wake up until the dream ran its course, and apparently I knew I couldn't until it did. It was one of the more bazaar dreaming experiences I've had. I have the movie The Mummy to thank for that.

Tattoo? Oh dear, this is going to sound kind of fan-girlish for obvious reasons XD If I could have a tattoo, I'd get a stylized black wing done on my right shoulder. Nothing too large, but big enough to be noticeable if I decided to wear a tank top or bathing suit, and probably with traditional Japanese watercolor influences to the design. Also once in my life, although it's not really a "tattoo" but semi-permanent, I'd like to get my hands and feet all decked out in henna. I think Sakura tattoos are pretty, but I'm not really sure I'd get one on my body. It really depends.

I also find tattoos on the hip bone/thigh/side of the body very appealing on characters.

@Midnight You picked the really difficult question! >>; XD I can't pick just one, so I'll go with my first favorite as a child, which was the Magic Kingdom of Landover series by Terry Brooks. They are written for adults, but my mom read them to me back then and I fell in love with them. They were my first introduction to the concept of in-depth characterization and kind of shaped my ideas about fantasy early on. I credit them with teaching me how to build stories even if I didn't take an interest in writing until my teens. Coming back to them as an adult has been interesting, because all of the things I was too young to understand became clear and I saw just exactly how good they were.

@Elyabeth I have a few! For humors sake, in Crisis Core when you roll Chocobo Mode, I love cactuar because of Zack's cactuar dance. I love the various incarnations of Phoenix. Fenrir is also visually just cool.

Title: Re: Oh, go ahead and ask~
Post by: Bunraku on May 08, 2014, 02:47:12 PM
One thing I'd like to do is be involved in a plot that effects the whole board in a sort of underground way that's indirect and subtle, a sort of "criminal act for the greater good" type of thing, where someone who dislikes the practices of the facility or at least disagrees with some of the things that happen there tries to undermine it from the inside. I have a character that could easily fit into such a scenario, but I'd need to get him as a companion and grow him first, then work out the plot and get it approved, and between one thing and another haven't really had a chance to set that into motion.

Title: Re: Oh, go ahead and ask~

I really hate games like Call of Duty or Grand Theft Auto. I dislike that particular type of blatant, ultra-realistic violence in video games and I'm not a fan of PVP. In contrast to that I like Assassins Creed and Aion, but those have other story elements that make the violent or PVP aspects less of a drawback.

I watch a lot of Anime :3 My all time never to be shaken from the top favorite is Inu Yasha, But I also like DN Angel and a few others who's names I can't recall at the moment.

Lol~ All the crocodiles in dreams for all. Think I read a book somewhere that said a crocodile means 'hidden danger' that or a possible something unexpected coming your way. That is if you believe half of what those dream books say.

When I say 'Squeak' what does it make you think of?

What are you most afraid of? Such as small spaces, spiders or such. I myself can't stand spider webs.

Title: Re: Oh, go ahead and ask~
Post by: Bunraku on May 12, 2014, 02:52:26 PM
Squeak = Solistia. It's also the sound one of my OC's makes when someone he doesn't know picks him up XD

My real fears aren't anything physical so much as emotional, though I suppose physicality enters into it to some extent. I think the most terrifying thought for an artist like me is, perhaps, having something happen that causes you to loose your talent, like an injury or perhaps a life change that makes you unable to practice so that everything you've learned fades. I think I also fear the loss of my characters- having no outlet to express them, or loosing the energy and drive to do so. Or even seeing the same happen to someone else.

Name a companion characteristic you tend to enjoy most? (Such as forearm fins, tail type, odd markings, ect.)

What typically is the hardest type of character for you to RP? (Mine tends to be villains/mean spirited souls. Which is why I'm trying to play them more.)

Title: Re: Oh, go ahead and ask~
Post by: Bunraku on May 28, 2014, 10:57:14 AM
Wings, I want a winged companion so badly, it's practically painful XD But on par with wings are dog/wolf/fox tail and ears, and I also love cat tail/ears. I do think finned companions are very pretty too and someday want a beta fish and a clown trigger fish. I also like exotic markings on the face or around the eyes that might make the companion look like it's wearing makeup, especially on normals where the most overt characteristic is actually the skin markings.

I actually have several types of character I find difficult to RP:

1. Villains/mean spirited souls. I'm in the same boat as you concerning them. In all honesty I don't think I will ever be able to enjoy playing a character that is consistently mean spirited.Which isn't to say that all of my characters are 100% nice, some of them have the ability to be very unpleasant at times (as all people can be) and I find that kind of realistic flaw interesting in recent years. But like you I've been making an effort to explore that territory in my writing, through creating villains that counterbalance the characters I do like. When writing them, I think what I have the most trouble with is their actions. While I can contemplate the intellectual aspects and reasons for what they do, and even, in some cases, justify them, when it comes to actually having them commit an unpleasant act, I tend to shy away. I have the same difficulty with my "good" characters as well, so it's a weakness in my writing I am slowly trying to overcome. (In contrast to that, I actually find well written villains in games/books/anime very compelling and end up feeling a great deal of sympathy for them if they are the type to walk in a shade of gray, where they have redeeming qualities and a reason for why they are the way they are. The best villains are the kind that make you question the actions of the hero. )

2. Female characters. There is something about playing a female character I just can't quite connect with in the same way I do a male character, even though I am a woman and you'd think those emotions and ideas would find a better outlet in a girl. Admittedly this feeling has been heavily influenced by certain stereotypes that ended up being lodged in my mind by anime and past RP experiences about "what a girl should be/ act like" where as I never had such reservations with a male (Though a friend of mine recently said something that helped me get over that hang up. You know who you are ^.~) Still, something always tends to feel slightly artificial when I'm trying to play a woman. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that there is an element of attraction in playing a male character, that a female character just doesn't have for me. I'm a heavily descriptive writer, and while I find my female characters pretty, I lack the drive to describe their looks. But again, it's something I'm trying to get over. Lately, I have the muse to explore the idea of female characters, due to the very positive experience I'm having with Althea's muse over on GK. She clicks with me, so she's kicked open the door for other females that are going to start making appearances in my stories.

3. Happy/Extroverted characters. While I don't always have difficulty with them, after a time I find that I can't quite make their personalities feel as genuine as I'd like because I am more naturally inclined towards playing introverted personalities. I have trouble with them coming off too silly, or even, at times, stupid. It is, again, something I'm trying to work on because I do like playing them, I just need to consider how to add more depth to them, whats going on beneath the surface of the smile, and how to find a natural balance between their extroverted side and aspects of them that might be just as troubled as my introverts. The contrast is just a little more difficult to portray believeably.

....that was way longer than it needed to be ><; ! Sorry, that question just sparked many of the thoughts running through my mind concerning character development lately.

@Elya: Most Favorite? Alan, I'm...so biased there though XD I...can't say I have a least favorite in any of yours either, though? I guess if I have to pick on someone it would be Quinton for being a meanypants, but even so he interests me. I kind of want him to meet an OC of mine someday who both wears glasses, and drinks wine, yet has a personality that is the complete opposite of his. I have the feeling they'd drive each other mad. It would be glorious XD

Are you the suppositious sort? Keep any good luck charms?

Which of my characters do you enjoy the most? the least? (Tis fine if you ignore least. Know it's hard to pick sometimes.)

I wouldn't say I'm overtly superstitious, but I do have moments and things that bug me. That being said I do have a tendency to keep some things that might be considered charms around. I really feel positive in the presence of Asian style luck charms, and I also keep a set of Fu dogs on my desk, facing the door in the traditional positions believed to ward off negative energy and increase prosperity.

For the second question, I am heavily biased towards liking Epona and Goliath the most, only because they are who I have read more than others. ^.^ (On GK, though, I enjoy all of your strong female characters lie Kira and Laural. I also like your depiction of Cloud, and then there's Conrad and Ross who's dynamic interests me. I need to poke Conrad in an RP, yes, yes I do XD )

Ooooooh~ need to get me some Fu dogs. <3

Strong female leads are a weakness of mine. Granted there can be overly annoying ones. Bahahaha! Sure poke the humorless fool. Don't cry to me when Conrad bites you. (totally down with throwing him at you someday.)

Hrrrm, I don't normally ship other peoples characters, though I'll sometimes ship copyrighted characters if I find it cute or like a fanart/fanfic. I only "ship" other peoples characters if I know they are already destined to be an item.

That being said, I totally ship Midnight's Rei and Dei >:} All the feathers. <3 <3

What odd details, if any, can you tell me about your characters? Totally include Grovekin characters. (Example: Originally I was going to make Roxanne a prostitute. OR Munira has finally solved her loud step issue, specially on concert, with custom rubber shoes. Anything you might want the forum to know counts.)

Which character haven't you been able to RP with that you'd like to?
